Review: Umi Japanese Cuisine

Do not under any circumstance order sushi from this restaurant. Last week, while stuck indoors with torrential downpour outside, my boyfriend and I decided that we were in the mood for some delicious sushi. We went on grubhub and picked the restaurant in the area with the best reviews which was Umi Japanese Cuisine on 2625 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20008.

We were forgiving of the fact that our food arrived an hour and a half after we order when were were told only 30-45 minutes. The weather was pretty awful so a lot of people would be ordering in from this popular restaurant. We ordered what we thought were three six-piece sushi rolls for $5-6 each but ended up with six hand rolls. A little annoyed that the menu wasn't very clear, we proceeded to eat our meager dinner and found that the sushi tasted awful. The eel was alright but the yellow tail was so fishy that it was almost unbearable.

At this point it was almost 9:00 PM and were were so hungry that we reluctantly finished the meal. Still hungry and disappointed, we ordered a medium pizza  and cheesy bread from Dominoes which would have been a much better idea in the beginning.

All in all, I would stay away from this restaurant whether dining in or delivery. For the price, you are much better off going to a place like Nooshi in Foggy Bottom where the service and food is always great.
