Restaurant Review: Lauriol Plaza

My boyfriend's roommate had his birthday dinner at Lauriol Plaza between Adam's Morgan and Dupont Circle this Saturday. I had never heard of the place before but my roommate told me they have amazing food and margaritas and is one of her favorite restaurants. As I said before in a previous restaurant post, I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food but I do love margaritas.

When I finally arrived after a never-ending ride on the circulator, the first thing I noticed was that the place was PACKED. There were people enjoying their drinks on the patio and right inside the restaurant where the bar is located. After finding my group, I was promptly handed a margarita to help me cool down. It was so yummy! A swirl of the traditional lime flavor mixed with strawberry. Not too sweet which I like. I would recommend them to everyone.

After waiting another 15 minutes, we were escorted to our table on the second floor of the building. Not only was the bar scene packed but almost every table around us was full. They squeezed our seven person group into a table for around five people which was fine but tight. When I looked at the menu, I have to admit it was a bit overwhelming. I had no idea what I was in the mood for and there were so many dishes to choose from. Even that day's specials sounded really good as well. I ended up choosing the carne asada a la parrilla dish which consisted of skirt beef served with tortilla, guacamole, salsa, and grilled veggies. It was a very filling and delicious dish. The beef was well cooked and the sides were fresh and full of spice.

Our waitress was a bit spread too thin working on several tables at once so our service could have been better but it didn't take away from the awesomeness of the food, environment, and margaritas. Definitely a fun place for a group; it might be a little too loud for a date but this was a Saturday night so I'm sure it's more low-key during the week.

Check out their menu here.
