Gwyneth Paltrow quits the food stamp challenge after four days

What Paltrow bought with her $29 (Twitter)

After four long days living like America’s poor, Gwyneth Paltrow broke her much-mocked attempt at shopping on a food stamp budget in search of some chicken and black licorice.

The multimillionaire mom was derided last week when she accepted the #FoodBankNYCChallenge from celebrity chef Mario Batali. The idea is to experience how difficult it is for families to live on the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — better known as food stamps. So she set out with $29 — the amount the average person on food stamps receives — and every intention of showing those strapped for cash how to do it.

Less than a week later, the famished “Iron Man” actress has given up.

“As I suspected, we only made it through about four days, when I personally broke and had some chicken and fresh vegetables (and in full transparency, half a bag of black licorice),” she wrote on her blog, GOOP. “My perspective has been forever altered by how difficult it was to eat wholesome, nutritious food on that budget, even for just a few days — a challenge that 47 million Americans face every day, week, and year.”

Indeed, Paltrow’s grocery list was a little unusual given the task. She came home with a dozen eggs, some black beans and brown rice, and an array of fruits and veggies — including a baffling number of limes. Seven.

The Washington Post’s Abby Phillip said it looked like tacos in the making. Others noted the ingredients were better suited for a Paltrow detox recipe. The whole bag of food would have likely given her roughly 1,000 calories a day to work with, according to the Frisky’s Rebecca Vipond Brink.

Her noble attempt was mostly met with eye rolls.

“Don’t worry, poor people: Gwyneth Paltrow is here to show you how to GOOP your food-stamp benefits,” someone tweeted late last week.

The purpose, it seems, was really more about proving that it can’t be done. To be fair, SNAP is intended to be a supplemental program, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Paltrow said the purpose of the challenge was to raise awareness and money for the Food Bank for New York City (as Batali attempts to fight against food stamp cuts.)

In the end, it gave Paltrow a reason to speak out about income equality.

“I am even more outraged that there is still not equal pay in the workplace,” she wrote. “Sorry to go on a tangent, but many hardworking mothers are being asked to do the impossible: Feed their families on a budget which can only support food businesses that provide low-quality food. The food system in our beautiful country needs to be subjected to a heavy revision — it is a cyclical problem, with repercussions that we all feel. I’m not suggesting everyone eat organic food from some high horse in the sky. I’m saying everyone should be able to afford fresh, real food. And if women were paid an equal wage, families might have more of a choice in the grocery aisles, not to mention in the rest of their lives.”

“I know hunger doesn’t always touch us all directly — but it does touch us all indirectly,” she added. “After this week, I am even more grateful I am able to provide high-quality food for my kids.”

Do you ever think before you speak?

Sherri Shepherd defends Chris "Role Model" Brown.

On “The View” today, Sherri Shepherd expressed concern for the various girls who tweeted on Grammy night that they'd accept abuse from Chris Brown. So far, so good! Which is why it's too bad Shepherd then defended Brown (again), even suggesting he could serve as a role model for victims of domestic abuse.

Did Kim Kardashian fake a heartful car scene?

Sounds like there is a voice over at 0:30.

Kim Kardashian makes an emotional confession to her mother; her marriage to Kris Humphries sucks. But was the segment shot after she announced her divorce to make it seem like her decision was justified?

In what could be a bit of creative backfilling, Kim is pictured having the heart-to-heart talk with momager Kris Jenner in the back of a limo, supposedly on a business trip to Dubai, during the latest episode of “Kourtney & Kim Take New York.”

But it’s impossible to tell if they really are in Dubai. The windows are totally blacked out and only they are visible on a white leather seat. It could have just as easily be shot in a studio.

There are no lights visible through the windows and no lights from passing cars or roadside street lights. Plus, the scene is perfectly lit in low light.

On DECEMBER 7, KIM was photographed by people magazine with the following caption "SHOULDER ON: After publicly fighting with her spouse, Kim Kardashian makes a pointed fashion statement Tuesday in Los Angeles." allegedly this was outside a recording studio. In the picture she's wearing the exact same outfit than in the "dubai" video, which was supposed to have been filmed in October.

Kardashian Collection: A line of knock-off purses?

If you suspect Kim Kardashian’s marriage was fake, wait until you see her new collection of handbags, which Fashionista says look very familiar. Kim and Khloe went down to Australia for the launch interviews (see below), where Khloe said “these are our designs, we design everything” while Kim insisted that “we're extremely involved in every last process." Hmm.

We perused the full line, and we think the Kardashians should give a little credit to Balenciaga, Hermes, Chanel, Alexander Wang, YSL, and many other designers. The sisters have admittedly knocked off logos, dresses, and now their entire line of handbags raises similar questions. True, the Kollection bags are a good deal cheaper than their lookalikes. From obvious similarities to very close shapes and colors, we’ve rounded up 11 Kardashian Kollection bags that look like knockoffs of other designs. Do you you see the resemblance?

SHOCKING.

Kim Kardashian will file for divorce this morning, after 72 days of not-so-wedded bliss to Kris Humphries ... TMZ has learned.

We're told even though the marriage was short, she will not seek an annulment. It's a garden variety divorce, in which Kim cites "irreconcilable differences."

We're told the date of separation is listed as today, Oct. 31, 2011.

Kim has hired disso-queen Laura Wasser, who has repped the likes of Britney Spears, Maria Shriver, Angelina Jolie, Ryan Reynolds, and Robyn Gibson, Mel's almost ex-wife.

As we first reported, the couple has a prenuptial agreement ... Kim made sure of that.

Rumors of a split had been swirling for some time and the two were spotted out to dinner earlier this week ... looking less than pleased with one another.

The couple was married on August 20 in a lavish ceremony (see below) in Montecito, CA. There are reports that the wedding cost as much as $10 mil, which means $138,888 for every day until today.

Michaele Salahi: Not kidnapped, ran away with Journey guitarist

Michaele Salahi, one of the “Real Housewives of D.C.” put an end to the rumors claiming she was kidnapped by stating that she actually ran off with rocker Neal Schon. The reality star and wife of Tareq Salahi did not mention any of her plans because she did not want her husband to know where she was, the Washington Post reports.

Michaele Salahi, 45, is a wild woman. In a glimpse, she left her husband and got onto the white horse of her Prince Charming, guitar player Neal Schon, 57, from the Journey rock band. And she didn’t tell anyone anything about her plan.

I really wish these two would just go away.
It all started when Tareq Salahi alerted the media and the police on Wednesday because his wife was nowhere to be found. He first talked to TMZ and revealed that Michaele, to whom he’s been married for 8 years, was gone missing. He confessed that his thoughts were that she has been abducted.

A few hours later, the police department in Warren County released an official statement in which its representatives said Michaele Salahi was found and she was alright. She let them know that she was not kidnapped, on the contrary. It was her decision to run away from home with her lover. She explained that she did not have a talk with her husband before her leaving, as she did not want him to know where she was.

Despite the Sheriff’s department assurance that Michaele was alright and left willingly, Tareq Salahi insisted that she might have been coerced. So the police assured him they will contact the FBI in order to find out for sure that his wife is safe and sound.

And she was. Later in the day, TMZ reported that the blonde wild wife of Salahi was indeed in the rocker’s company. More than that, she was at one of the band’s concerts and was having a blast.
